Wanderlust

Travelling to unknown locations is an indescribable experience. One gets to watch a whole new world unfold before oneself. It’s divine to savour those moments.

For me, road trips are the best! When travelling by car, there’s a lot of flexibility in terms of exploration along the journey. One can stop at one’s own convenience, venture out towards beauteous locations which may be a bit off track.

And if the SUV is a four wheel drive, then the possibilities are endless! One such trip particularly stands out in terms of memorability. It was to a small town called Dhanushkodi located at the south-eastern tip of Pamban Island of the state of Tamil Nadu in India.

It was an 18 kms picturesque drive from a town called Rameswaram to Dhanushkodi. The road was good with beautiful coastal views. However, the good road ended at the checkpost at the entrance of Dhanushkodi village. After we crossed the checkpost, there is nothing but sand and sea!

As we drove on the sandy path, we almost forgot how normal land on Earth looks like! Later the path gave way to slush and sea water, we were actually driving right next to the sea water that had advanced by severals meters.

Then, the vehicle ploughed on sand, marsh lands and slush. But, it was an experience of a lifetime. It was a bumpy ride as our ride swayed here and there. Our vehicle threatened to get stuck. But..the scenes around, made us forget everything else! As we drove further, the sea water and marshy path soon gave way to a pristine beach.

The soft, white sand contrasted with the bluish green of the Bay of Bengal. It looked like a canvas painting. We were at one of the most untouched, beautiful landscapes of the country. We were supposed to be out somewhere in the middle of the sea!

This particular trip tops my list of road trips. It was a magical unforgettable experience.
